President Turner H. Mebane Turner has been President of the University of Baltimore since 1969. He holds the academic rank of Professor of History. Prior to assuming the position of president, he served as provost of the University of Baltimore for approximately one year .

Dr. Turner's achievements at the University of Baltimore include bringing the university into the public sector of higher education in 1975 and raising the standards and reputation of the university and its programs. The university now is a constituent member of the University System of Maryland. He has spearheaded efforts to secure grants to improve the quality of academic programs and the physical plant. The university's foundation assets during the last 30 years have grown to over $30 million.

Under President Turner's leadership and guidance, the University of Baltimore has become an integral part of the Baltimore community through the establishment of outreach programs in the social, legal, business and educational domains.

Dr. Turner is a director of The Lyric Foundation and has led community efforts to modernize The Lyric since 1978. He selVes on the boards of Historic Charles Street Association and Midtown Development Corporation and Mt. Vernon Belvedere Association. He is past Governor General of the General Society of Colonial Wars, and past president of the Baltimore City Jail Board, Baltimore Rotary and the Virginians of Maryland.

Dr. Turner received his undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia in 1954 and postgraduate degrees from Union Theological Seminary in 1957 and Teachers College of Columbia University in 1960. He earned a Doctor of Education degree from The American University in 1974.
