Ellen Ostrow Ellen Ostrow, Ph.D. is the owner of LawyersLifeCoach LLC, a firm providing professional development, career and executive coaching to attorneys. LawyersLifeCoach specializes in providing virtual (by phone with e-mail and fax back up) coaching to lawyers determined to achieve professional success without compromising the quality of their lives. Lawyers Life Coach LLC provides individual and group coaching and consultation to attorneys and law firms throughout the country on issues related to work/life balance, leadership, strategic career design, effective communication, and client development.

A frequent speaker on work/life and career issues facing women attorneys, Dr. Ostrow has addressed the American Bar Association, the ABA Forum on Affordable Housing, The State Bar Associations of Virginia, Wisconsin and Texas, the Birmingham (AL) Bar Association, the Annual Law Firm Associate Management Forum, the Women's Bar Association of the District of Columbia, the Women's Caucus of The Academy of Florida Trial Lawyers and the Young Lawyers Sections of the Bar Association of the District of Columbia and the Women's Bar Association of D.C. She was recently the keynote speaker for the Florida Association for Women Lawyers. Upcoming presentations include The North Carolina Bar Association, the New Orleans Bar Association, the National Association of Women Lawyers, "Flex-Time Lawyers," The Third Path's Program on Redesigning the Legal Workplace, and the Wisconsin State Bar's Annual meeting. She has also accepted an invitation to serve on the faculty of the ABA Commission on Women in the Profession's Leadership Academy.

Ellen's email newsletter, "Beyond the Billable Hour" (TM) has been reprinted by more than 20 state bar association publications, the ALI-ABA CLE Review, The ABA's General Practice, Solo and Small Firm Section's publication, SOLO, the ABA Career Counsel, The ABA's Law Practice Management Section's Law Practice Today, WESTLAW, Lawyers Weekly, the LAWZONE newswire and the Law Marketing Portal. A contributing writer for the ABA Commission on Women in the Profession's publication, Perspectives, and Trial Magazine, Ellen is also a regular columnist on work/life balance for the Chronicle of Higher Education Career network. Ellen serves on the Advisory Board of the Project for Attorney Retention and the Project for Attorney Retention - Corporate Counsels. She has been quoted in the ABA Journal, Of Counsel, Perspectives, The New York Times, The Washington Post, New York Lawyer, US News & World Report, Health Magazine, MORE Magazine and other national publications.

Ellen earned her Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Rochester in 1980. She served on the psychology faculties of the University of Rochester and the University of Utah and was an adjunct faculty member of the University of Maryland's psychology department. Ellen served on the psychology staff of the university counseling centers at the University of Rochester, the University of Utah, the University of Maryland and George Washington University.

Ellen entered full-time independent practice in 1987 and has been a managing member of Metropolitan Behavioral Health Care, a multispecialty psychotherapy practice in Washington, D.C. and suburban Maryland, since 1995.

After graduating from the MentorCoach ™ training program in 1998, Ellen began her coaching practice. She now provides both individual and group coaching services to lawyers throughout the U.S. and Canada. In addition, Ellen now serves on the MentorCoach ™ faculty. teaching the Master Class in Strategic Career Design Coaching.
